Kick-off of research into further collaboration between the out-of-hours GP service and the emergency department

GP and Care and the Beatrix Hospital of Rivas Zorggroep will investigate further cooperation for emergency care in the region. To this end, they signed a letter of intent on April 11. This year, a multidisciplinary core team led by Jacqueline van Bree will further elaborate on what this collaboration between the Gorinchem GP Post and the Emergency Department will look like.

The right care in the right place

The GP Post (HAP), which falls under the responsibility of the General Practitioner and Care (HenZ), and the Emergency Department (SEH) of the Beatrix Hospital have been working closely together for years. A further joining of forces should result in a future-proof acute chain for the region. The most important goal is that patients who need emergency care receive the right care in the right place as quickly as possible.

Future-proof acute supply chain

In addition, the collaboration should ensure an improved flow in the acute chain, the reduction of peak traffic, a more efficient deployment of employees with a reduction in the workload for doctors, general practitioners, nurses, doctor’s assistants and triage nurses, and a more efficient use of facilities and resources. It goes without saying that healthcare providers from both organisations are closely involved in this project.

Emergency care in our region

Since 2020, the structure of acute care in the Netherlands has been under discussion. Emergency care must remain accessible to everyone, but also affordable. The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport is investigating options to keep healthcare affordable.

Rivas Care Group and HenZ, together with the municipality of Gorinchem and Yulius, among others, responded to the ministry’s call to think along with the so-called Charcoal Sketch. A joint vision has been presented to the minister to guarantee sensible, high-quality and affordable acute care in our region. Far-reaching cooperation between partners in acute care, including the integration of HAP and the emergency department, is an important part of this.
